Abstract
Several autoimmune diseases are occasionally associated with other autoimmune diseases. It is well recognzied that type I diabetes mellitus and autoimmune thyroid diseases, such as, Graves' disease and hashimoto's thyroiditis are associated with
rheumatoid arthritis. Although the exact mechnisms of this assoclation are not well documented, genetic factor, hormonal factor, environmental factor, and immunologic defects might contribute for it.
Recently we experienced a 36 year-old female patient in whom rheumatoid arthritis was developed 6 years after subtotal thrroidectomy and methimazole therapy for the treatment of Graves' disease. We described clinical details of this case and
discussed
the relationship of the two autoimmune diseases.
